Funeral Pianist – Dec 24, 2009
Christmas Eve of this year started off with a pretty sorrowful beginning. In the morning, I played music for a funeral at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. It’s really difficult knowing that somebody will be laid to rest on the eve of Christ’s birth. Usually, this is the time of the year when everyone is getting excited about the season rush, getting last minute gift purchases in order, going about the hustle and bustle.
I asked my wife to sing Panis Angelicus, a song that she is more familiar with and one that I’m in the process of learning. We also did a beautiful rendition of the Prayer of St. Francis as well.
Overall, the funeral went well and I did whatever I could to make sure it was a beautiful one musically. At the same time, I couldn’t help but think about the family – the man who will be celebrating Christmas without his loving wife whom he laid to rest yesterday. That, in a nutshell, is pretty tough to go through. I will be keeping him and his family in my prayers with love and strength for them.

I can play and/or sing for any funeral, provided that there is a piano of some sorts – be it digital or acoustic. For Church organs, it’s best to have the church contact me asap, so that I can make arrangements as necessary since many organs have different configurations. I can bring my own keyboard (which is sometimes better since I can use the beautiful sounds provided on it.)
